In the fediverse since 2017. I mostly talk sports. If something on the internet doesn’t spark joy, mute it.
Do not yell at me simply because I am in front of you and the people responsible for the problems are not. It is extremely unpleasant.

6·17 hours agoAveraged out, even consumer plans will be covering their operational costs and likely turning a profit too.
How do you square this expectation that consumer plans turn a profit with the reality that Anthropic lost $42 billion on $4.6 billion of revenue?

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What do you all think of Effective AltruismEnglish
681·2 days agoEffective Altruism is a plausible-sounding framework, but the practitioners are literal insane people. Should you donate a fixed part of your earnings every pay period to the most effective charities? Yes! But after that, it basically all falls apart and suddenly you’re in Yudowsky’s weird sex cult donating money to some weird crypto scheme.

81·2 days agoSo they can access data about your dining history with other restaurants, things like how long you sit at the table and how much you tip. Presumably, it’s a prelude to determining whether to seat you (you’re unlikely to tip? oh, sorry, we’re all full up), or to tailor prices (oh, you eat at fancy restaurants? we’ll get out the menu with the expensive prices).

memes@lemmy.world•No one else will tell you this. And you probably won’t want to hear it.English
1·2 days agoOkay, so let me get this straight: the ongoing protesting is explicitly part of “Their Plan,” but at the same time, despite having explicitly planned these protests, they don’t know why people are protesting. “They” made a plan for there to be worldwide protests, and then kinda just did stuff because “They” otherwise didn’t know what would make people riot?
It is not widely understood (an English understatement if ever there was one) but the riots and violent demonstrations convulsing Europe are organised by the Conspirators – and are part of their Plan.
…No one in government ever asks why people are rioting. Politicians everywhere are so arrogant, and so remote from reality, that it doesn’t ever occur to them that the rioting is entirely their fault and that only they can do something to stop it.
I think the fedi project that it most interesting in this regard is Holos, where your fedi server runs on your device. Having an app that runs on your phone that “just works” is probably the best solution long-term, and it feels like Holos has a reasonable chance of achieving it.

Mildly Interesting@lemmy.world•Why do rich, low-unemployment cities have the most homelessness? A new analysis points to spare bedrooms, not drugs or jobs.ArticleEnglish
41·4 days agoI am sorry but this analysis is some of the most facile drivel I’ve ever read. Your parents not being able to afford a spare room and you not being able to afford an apartment are symptoms of exactly the same market pressures, and the solution to both is the same: build more housing.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What're your ideas for a Halloween costume this year?English
7·5 days agoI’ll share the low-effort one I thought of that inspired me to ask this, which to just write the number 4 in black marker on a white tee and go as a certificate authority, but I expect y’all to have better ideas.

I do. Consolidating my phone and tablet into a single device would be very convenient. Adding support for an external monitor, keyboard and mouse to replace my laptop would be even better. I didn’t buy a Duo not because I don’t want the product, but because I know they won’t work well for another few iterations (at least).
