Home Depot was hacked through their HVAC; we have learned nothing.

A lot of the DIY PC market is already under pressure. I worry that this will further strain the component makers (like cases and power supplies and such) and builders.

I scroll YouTube shorts (I’m weak) and there’s a guy there who does traffic safety systems and calls out how flock cameras in the “clear zone” don’t have shear-off poles. They’re a menace on many levels.

I bought RAM just in the cusp of the jump. September I put it in the cart waiting for Black Friday and October came by and it was up 50% and I jumped on.
But I’m deleting stuff on my NAS. I neeeed some big drives.

I’m not questioning the accessibility - but the absolute state of the pavement already is a huge accessibility issue; it’s difficult to accept the council’s point when they have surely failed to maintain the pavements. Everything sucks here.

I’d be the reason that the employee handbook includes an expectation to wear pants at home.
Enjoy a picture every 3 min of my hairy asshole.
The telemetry that the average EDR collects would scare most people, and should be sufficient to make a case if someone is shirking their duty in a way that’s not detected by performance (eg farming out to India)

Imagine being so sensitive about a wall mounted charger and/or cables across the pavement when the pavement and street look like that. The bins will hide a charger neatly, and the pavement is simply patchwork.
Councils and planners in UK need to be replaced. I’d say “give their head a shake” but they challenge USA HOA for stupidity a lot of the time.

Anyone who calls me on teams can send me an email like a civilized fucking human and I’ll respond when I’m good and ready.
Or a teams message.
But I’m not a savage answering a telephone like it’s 1965.

DCFC is much more expensive than home rates. Approaching petrol cost per km. I don’t use them, but I think that would be an aggressively low rate around here.
The worst ones are the ones that bill by time, so if you have a slow car, it costs more.

Backups? In this economy?
But I need to get something working. I am about to move to VaultWarden and that makes me very nervous.

I notice something stopped working, or someone in the household notices.
Then I go fix it.

I’m thinking about Blu ray legal versions of the stuff I want in 4k… if I can get it though. It’s a short list. The downside is that apparently the releases aren’t always done the right way so film buffs say “well ackshully the audio on the LaserDisc version is better” and it can be hard to get, especially legit versions instead of pirated rips (technology connections had a video about DVDs.)
I tried getting some 4k stuff and between the audio format and HDR and whatever else, i gave up. I need new hardware to really make use of it and it takes up SO MUCH SPACE.

I hope it alleviates the pressure. I need to upgrade the 4TB in my array, badly. It’s all on borrowed time.

ChatGPT loses money on every query their premium subscribers submit. They lose money when people use copilot, which they resell to Microsoft. And it’s not like they’re going to make it up on volume - heavy users are significantly more costly.
This isn’t unique to ChatGPT.
Yes, it has its uses; no, it cannot continue in the way it has so far. Is it worth more than $200/month to you? Microsoft is tearing up datacenter deals. I don’t know what the future is, but this ain’t it.
ETA I think that management gets the most benefit, by far, and that’s why there’s so much talk about it. I recently needed to lead a meeting and spent some time building the deck with a LLM; took me 20 min to do something otherwise would have taken over an hour. When that is your job alongside responding to emails, it’s easy to see the draw. Of course, many of these people are in Bullshit Jobs.
Did you see the pavement either side of the trip hazard? The whole thing is a trip hazard.
