Yeah, for all the criticisms of Microsoft, not understanding “everything is an Xbox” is not one I understand, it seemed pretty obvious to me. Though, I suppose we’re in the minority, as I’ve heard the “what the hecc does that mean” from everyone from normies to tech literate people. I don’t get it.

3·2 hours agoTo all the people saying they hope this doesn’t work out, do yah want more people on Linux or not? For some, Fortnite will be the killer game that they have to stay on Windows for.

1·8 hours agoI use Home Assistant, and prefer Z Wave or Zigbee, as those are gaurenteed to not call home and not rely on a third party server. Third Reality makes some pretty good stuff. And yeah, it’d go between the wall and my server rack.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•What is your self hosted power draw?English
1·9 hours agoI am, and it does, that’s how I got the 300-400w estimate. It is connected to the NAS and shuts it down gracefully when power goes out. Wonder if the NAS can also read the power usage over that cable. Might just be easier to use a $15 zigbee plug though to get the data directly into Home Assistant.
About 300-400 watts. I should put it on a smart plug to track it over time. I have a NAS with 16 HDDs, an outdated super overkill switch that I should replace to save some power, and a few old laptops.
It also might use some more power while transcoding for my PeerTube Instance or Jellyfin, and I have my desktop set up as a remote runner for the PeerTube Instance, so that uses some additional power.

Jokes can’t really be funny to me if they don’t make any sense. They need to be based in reality (or in this case the reality of HP)

4·5 days agoWell yeah, but we aren’t talking about illegal orders here unfortunately.
I’m excited for memories as well, but I’m not sure you’re using the phrase deal breaker correctly here haha.

Technology@lemmy.world•Hope you like RCS, because Google Messages plans to remove this easy way to turn it offEnglish
8·5 days agoI heard RCS was due to open up any day now. I heard that like 5 years ago. I want to be able to use Textra (or other 3rd party texting apps) again. I fucking hate that I’m locked into Google messages if I want to be able to send high res photos and whatnot to my non-techy friends and family.
They’re in my attached garage. In the living room when it’s quiet I can hear them humming. Does that count?

4·5 days agoIsn’t the whole thing about being in the army that you follow orders without question? Trump is the commander in chief and these guys are just following orders.
To be clear - I don’t agree with any of this, but I’m also not that surprised.

I’d second that. Whenever I catch myself getting angry at a LLM I stop, have a think, and remind myself that it really isn’t productive. If it’s providing frustrating responses, maybe I should just use my brain and do it myself.
I also don’t think it’s healthy to train yourself to respond in those ways to something that talks in a way so similar to a human. I’m not nice to the AI for it’s benifit, it’s to retain my humanity, if that makes sense.

That’s really fair. I forget that anticheats are kernel level I guess, as it makes no sense. Hopefully, as the other reply to my comment mentioned, it’s not kernel level.
