Two tired mice in a pail of milk, They swam around as best they could. But hope began to fade - what should they do? One wanted to drown itself, But its friend said, "No, no, no, For hope only triumphs, maybe, As long as we keep searching for it. Keep searching for it.

They added even more regulation more recently.
We met all the criteria except the positive net wealth due to student loans and in our budget we would have been net positive within 5 years, but 3 banks didn’t believe that. We only got the loan because we had 15 % in down payment.
These are the current criteria:
Down payment - minimum 5% of the purchase price from your own funds
Debt factor - total debt must not exceed roughly 4–5× household income before tax
Interest stress test - your budget must handle rates of at least 4.5%
Positive net wealth - either upfront, or a repayment plan making it positive within max. 5 years
Minimum disposable income - $750 - $1050/month left after all expenses, and each child adds $400-500 to that amount.
My parents bought a house in the 90’s and after they bought it, they realized they couldn’t really afford the mortgage.
As a comparison, my wife and I tried buying a house 3 years ago. We had around $3,000 left in our budget after ALL our expenses was paid, and we got rejected in 3 banks before we got a loan.
Our rent was $1,500 / month. Our mortgage is $1,000 / month. We have more money after expenses living in our house compared to the place we lived before.
They make it really damn difficult to buy a house, even when you have the money.
Isn’t the difference between aristocracy and oligarchy only that oligarchy is a more corrupt version aristocracy? Seems like a blurry line. None the less, both systems seems suck for those not among the elite.
I am not familiar with the show, but a quick research shows that it seems like The Gilded Age portrays something similar to Downton Abbey, but it’s more some quasi aristocratic class hierarchy.
In 80 years our grandchildren will watch the new Downton Abbey series just with oligarchy instead aristocracy and feel very sorry for us.

9·17 days agoAlso an outdated grid network.
"Transmission constraint costs in Great Britain hit £1.9 billion in 2024/25, accounting for 71% of total balancing costs. That share has risen from 44% in 2022/23 and is on course to reach £4-8 billion annually by 2030 without major intervention. The bottleneck is Scotland.
In 2025, turning down Scottish wind cost around £350 million. Replacement generation (mostly in the form of gas) cost over £1 billion. Curtailment is now the primary driver of Great Britain’s national balancing costs."

Thanks. It was a really awesome trip, and we just got really close really early on, and we just knew at point, that we liked each other a lot. And we have some really funny and great memories from 6 days in the “wilderness”.
We are not normal, and don’t strive to be it either. We also don’t think any of us could find another partner, so we will most likely be off the market forever. You are welcome.
We took it to the extreme. Our first date was a trip to another country with backpacks, a small tent, a bag of rice and one of those small gas stove. She cursed at me and the world on our first hiking trip, while sweating like a horse. She was in a terrible form and do not enjoy hiking trips.
We had to shower in the lakes, and they were cold AF, so… I did not present myself from my best side…
We also nearly died. But, we’ve been together for 10+ years now.
We stress tested the shit out of our relationship on that trip.
After our near death experience, we settled somewhere nice, but during that night we were hit by an hurricane and my tent broke, forcing me to stay up all night, holding it together, while she slept. It was a special date.

Ooooohhhh…
