My favorite cat would sleep like he had just been hit by a car. Our in-joke for him was just “RIP”.

I think I speak for most people when I say that I’m a good representative of the general population.

Ha ha, tricked you Toby! You were actually prescribed this medicine by your doctor, to prevent a long and painful death from a non-poison cause!

It’s true for music too apart from the chart-topping names. Music and games are both art forms, and the general principle is pretty simple: if you don’t already have a dedicated fanbase, obscurity is a much greater threat to your finances than piracy.
One time like ten years ago I got dressed to drive in to grad school like any other morning, but right before I left I noticed that I had left the dresser drawer open. I was like huh, weird, I’ve never done that before, but I just shut it and left and didn’t think much of it.
I got back home maybe nine hours later and the usual cat that would great me at the door wasn’t there, instead it was my antisocial cat. I see her pacing back and forth in front of the dresser and my heart just sank into my stomach when I made the connection.
There’s really something to be said for moments of terror for someone’s wellbeing that turn into pure comedy the instant you realize they’re fine. He does a big stretch and hops out all happy, best sleep of his life. Black cat curled up on dark-colored shirts in my black dresser.
Later that evening I catch him opening the drawer with his paw, he had just taught himself a new trick without having the courtesy to inform me about it.
I actually do think that someone who already has multiple decades of experience in programming without using AI is probably not producing shoddier code after incorporating it into their workflow. Important modern software projects, whose backbones are programmers fitting that description, aren’t going to be worse in the present because of Claude usage. I remain strongly against it though, because normalizing its usage guarantees the future won’t have programmers that fit that description running the shows.
I think this can be framed as a statement about generative AI in general: If you think AI has been making everything shittier today, just wait until you see what it’s been doing to everything tomorrow.
