Well there were conversations that AI should be public… Publicly bailed out by taxpayers with a negative return on investment.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Mobile phones - do you store your apps in folders or pages (screens)?
7·8 days agoI find it more practical to seperate by things you uses frequently vs things you use occasionally. Frequently used things get a place on the home page where it’s easy to get to, everything else is dumped into a few broad catagories.
I have 4 folders, “stores(&bank stuff)” “games(&entertainment)” “utilities(&misc)” and “work”.
It’s all sorted alphabetical.

Technology@lemmy.world•'Unprecedented' Cyberattack cripples supermarket fridges across Europe as hackers activate automatic defrosting — delivery and store prices also impacted by incidentEnglish
7·21 days agoSpeculation to your question, for monitoring and control.
For monitoring, log temperatures and send error message if it gets too high. Data could be used if any legal question come up about food spoilage.
For control, I’m guessing there’s times you want to shut it off or enable/disable defrost. Easier to do that at a computer than have controls that are either a pain inthe ass to get to, or too easy for some moron to mess with.
That being said, it should be on a local network and have no access to the internet. However a chain store would probably want the data sent to HQ, so the computer would need to be on the network.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is your opinion on the recent decompilations of games and for-profit software? What do you feel about the use of AI in these projects?
10·22 days agoI’d rather see open source software get the rescources they need to “catch up” to the monopolies.
The stuff ai is spitting out won’t be easy to maintain and any securrity vunerabilites will go unpatched. Attempting to maintain this software with ai will just result in making more dataceneters and more communities will be fucked over.
However, if adobe and microsoft sucesfully claim ai has stolen their code, than they might set the legal president that AI has to follow copyright laws. Which could help artists (wishfull thinking, I know).

5·22 days agoI still use my copy of photoshop from time to time.
Photopea has been my go to alternative for opening actual psd docs for a while.
Paint.net was my go to for quick stuff back in windows. I’ve been learning Kirta on linux now.
But for certain work, the 10 year old copy of photoshop is still better at certain things. Specifically for editing actual photos (go figure).

Technology@lemmy.world•I got targeted - frankwiles.comEnglish
7·22 days agoEnough of the clickbait titles please. We’re here to escape the mainstream bullshit. If an article is intresting enough, at least come with up a short synopsis so we know what the topic is. “I got Targeted - frankwiles.com (software dev almost gets phished by fake project offer)”
That being said, thank you for sharing it. This is an intresting read, the lengths hackers/scammers go to trick people. It wasn’t some “hollywood” crack the code bullshit, they came up with a plossible story and tried to get the guy to run malicious code. It reinforceses that the user is the weakest link, no matter how smart or careful we are. Security isn’t just about preventing yourself from getting hacked, minmizing damage and having a recovery options for when you fuckup is important too.
Consent is consent. It’s not exclusive to sexual activities.
Extreme comparisons like this have been used since the dawn of time to draw attention to a smaller problems. Just because it’s smaller problem, doesn’t mean it’s not a problem.
In fact, there’s nothing in this comic that specifically compares scraping AI to sexual consent. Sure the “ugly” guy is pretty stereotypical of how we represent rapists, but that’s just a common association we share, not reality (I have no doubt the artist is fully aware of this).
If we really want to get into this, we can talk about the AI scrapping being done across social media that is adding children to the data set. Do you think everyone ai generating images of children has good intentions? Think their parents give consent for that “use case” when they posted the pictures to Facebook years ago? It’s disgusting and should not be dismissed because “its as bad as the real crime”.

Don’t forget to have a speaker playing a loud constant noise that can be heard across the neighbor hood.
