Yesterday there was a weird play in the Thursday Night Football game where the Bears’ quarterback handed the ball to an offensive lineman, who ran it in for a touchdown. The referees threw a flag and called the play back because it was an “illegal handoff”, which I had never seen before.

I was texting my brother during the game and we both commented on how weird it was. My brother googled it and read the AI summary, which said the play was legal - citing a reddit thread from several years ago. He was like “Google says the play was legal - the refs got it wrong!”

I had to go to the NFL rulebook and dig through a bunch of sections before confirming that the refs were correct and you can’t do that.

AI is absolute dogshit for anything that requires a bit of nuance. But it is really fast at serving up that dogshit, so a lot of lazy people would rather just accept a quick wrong answer than a slow correct one.

Yeah, I think not sounding gross or dangerous is part of it - combined with the skill level. Personally, my in-laws encouraged my nephew not to go to college, but instead to become a welder - or an electrician as a backup plan.

He did neither and now works for the city cleaning sewers. It’s a needed job and pays ok, but no one ever says “you don’t need to go to college, you can clean a sewer.” It’s always “you can be a welder.”

I understand that welding takes skill. But I’m more wondering why I’ve personally talked to several parents/grandparents with kids about to graduate highschool with poor grades - and nearly everyone of those people has said that college isn’t the right choice for their kid, so they’re going to go into the trades and become a welder.

So far, none of the kids I’m referring to have actually become a welder. Are those family members saying their kid is going to become a welder because of the skill involved at the highest level of the craft? Is welding the blue collar equivalent of becoming an artist?

From the screenshot that I replied to, they define it as Alternative Online Marketing. Basically posing as a normal user in order to sell something in a way that seems organic.
