Let’s be honest, mailing lists are garbage and just increase the barrier to contribution. They lack nearly everything useful for reviewing code and giving feedback.
They are wonderful for LLMs though. Somebody unwilling to learn the arcane crap needed to contribute just pushes it out to an LLM. It’s easier for them to contribute than humans.
Vendors releasing proprietary drivers and software for their hardware should probably just opensource it. It’ll save the world precious compute. If they don’t, many customers will waste that tasking their LLMs to reverse engineer their crap.
We are all to blame. But it’s just the way the pendulum is swinging now.

Computer science has many fields and those even differ per country. Theoretical computer science is only one part of it. There are also many specialisations.

I was forcefully switched to Wayland a year or so ago and didn’t even notice until I tried to run some xdotool stuff. The average user doesn’t know and doesn’t care about X.ORG.
And of course all the issues are typical C issues 😄 It will take some time to get rid of that language, but time can’t pass fast enough.

Also perplexing to me that idle is chosen as a default.
The C++ takedown video was amazing, this video seems like it was made by a person who couldn’t gather their thoughts and just goes off on tangents. Is there a problem with the rust memory model? Is borrowing theoretically incorrect? What actually is the purported problem? I guess we won’t know until they make a new structured video.
Studies have shown that professors can’t tell apart AI from student submissions of writing. People like to believe they can recognise AI written or AI assisted code, but they are terrible at it.
