Be true. It isn’t a duodecimal system. Sometimes it needs 12 to get to the next highest unit, sometimes 3 or 8 or 16 or 14 or 5280.

Being entirely duodecimal would be kinda cool in fact. But it’s not applicable and shouldn’t be used as an argument pro US customary system.

What’s a sixth of an ounce? A sixth of a pint? Of a gallon? Of a pound per square inch? Of an inch?

I think it’s good. The flood of cheap manufactured items was too great for customs to handle. They couldn’t check every little package and so children’s toys with poisonous traces and all kinds of stuff bad for your health made it thru.

Flour should be in your budget. Learn how to make a pan fried wheat tortilla - super quick and easy. Then you can look up Turkish flatbread or Italian focaccia. That will spice up your routine.

Fried potatoes, refried potatoes (from boiled leftovers).

Make sauces with nothing but a bit of butter, flour, instant buillon cube/powder. Optional: cream, milk, onions, garlic, anything that was left in the pan from something you just fried.

You can also steam some potatoes with canned meat in a pot.

But onion - I think - would be a great game changer.
And if you can plant some rosemary or thyme in a garden or pot on the windowsill. Those are hardy plants and won’t likely die on you and they taste amazing with potatoes, especially freshly picked.
