I started watching Colombo just last month, after seeing a clip on YouTube (This one). It really does hold up well. It’s a bit like Dr House with a bit of a Get Smart vibe. But it’s real easy watching, subtle humour, and tons of famous actors in early roles like Jamie Lee Curtis.
Oh and just one more thing. The actor who plays Columbo is, I’m quite sure, the only one who could have made his so great. The bumbling minutiae of his little mannerisms, Constantly mentioning his wife but never seeing her, his cigar, his body language. It’s so natural and improvised compared to the stiffness of most actors of the time.
My mom, my grandma, and when needed friend of the family babysitter all watched the show. I’ve probably seen every episode without actually watching it.
Never watched it, but I’ve seen memes and read funny Tumblr posts about him. Should I give the show a try?

please ignore season 8/9/10 they are too silly. start from the beginning and enjoy all the inside gags.
and: especially: enjoy the slow story telling.

It’s a pretty old show, but if you like shows that have a “mystery of the week” style episodes you might enjoy it.
