The Alabama State House District 25 results show Montgomery winning 12,456 votes (53.2%) to Rigsby’s 10,929 (46.7%).
Writing after the results, Montgomery urged supporters not to get distracted. “I know the headlines tomorrow are gonna be provocative and catchy, but let’s focus on the most important part of this victory: we showed that a truly grassroots campaign that stands on its policies and its principles has a real shot in Alabama,” she wrote.
Wow. Ala-fucking-bama? Weird times. This is great to see, but I would never have expected to live to see something like this come out of Alabama. My whole life I’ve had the tought ‘at least I’m not in Alabama’ rattling around in the back of my head. I’ll still have that thought, but it will be a little quieter. Not by much. But, still . . …
Alabama elects a trans woman while blue states are trying to ban them from sports. Wtf lol
Unfortunately, at least in my neck of the blue(ish) woods, they didn’t just try. Trans girls were overwhelmingly prohibited from participating in cis girls’ sports. Interestingly, the opposite is not true. The initiative that passed (by a whopping 66% to 33% on the other side) only prevents trans girls from playing. Trans boys can participate with cis boys no problem according to the text of the initiative. I want to see a trans boy just absolutely wipe the floor with the cis boys and watch some heads spin.
FYI using “cis” instead of “bio(logical)” is a more polite way to get your point across ^^
Shit, you’re right. I fixed my comments and will take note in future commentary.
no hard feelings! appreciate the thought 🩷
Yeah it’s disappointing but can state supreme courts be of any recourse in this arena?
I don’t know. I know the local GOP only got 1 of their choices in, so if the courts can do anything, they should have the numbers.
A lot of people went to the polls, voted Dem, and also said “fuck them trans.” It hurts to know that.
Living in CA, I’m used to the latter; conservatives use propositions to pass bullshit, since they can’t get elected themselves. It often does get overturned in democratic courts, though not always.
If you look at the campaign donation stats her opponent outspent her by like 20 times but she had like 5 times as much people that donated. It was a true grassroots campaign.
Montgomery is an epic last name. Can’t beat that.
Put people up they want to vote for and they will.
In Alabama? Against an incumbent??
Zamn congrats gg
She better have security
At this point if you’re any flavor of LGBTQ you better have a concealed carry license
Waves of good news putting a balm on my burned heart today 🥰 did not have this on my bingo card but that’s an awesome win!
Imagine pissing off rural base so much they stop caring about stupid idpol and vote for a competent person. Alabama is aflame.
