Not a Christian but I read the new testament and Jesus does stop a public execution:

    https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=john+8&version=KJV

They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act. Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou? This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not. So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.

This story wasn’t about condemning the practice of public execution, it was about pointing out the hypocrisy of the people participating in a stoning of a woman for adultery. Was it even a public execution (that is, an event people would attend and watch)?

Always just came off as a more vigilante justice thing so I’m not even sure it was a public execution in the way we’re referring to. Even if it were an officially adjudicated sentence, I don’t recall mention of a crowd to watch or anything. Though it has been years since I’ve read it so I dunno.

You can read the whole thing in the link I sent. It was a public execution, with audience participation even.

Lol yeah no thanks. I’ll read a good book instead.

Nothing you said changes the message of the story. He doesn’t condemn the public execution at all. He just talks people out of participating.

There’s also that whole thing about he himself needing to be very brutally publicly executed in order to fulfill some convoluted, nonsensical plan that he himself (in the form of his own father) came up with.

That’s like the ultimate condoning of public execution. It literally saved humanity, according to Christians.
