Why do old people always ask ‘who are these people?’ when you show them anything? They clearly know the concept of images of strange people from news anchors or infomercials or America’s funniest home videos. Why is it that they need to know who’s cat this is when I’m showing them a funny video?

Old people come from a time where everything was a thing. Everybody watched the same exact shit on TV. Everyone saw the same movies. If anything was anything it was because everyone knew about it. Or if they didnt know about it, someone they knew knew about it

Old people cannot comprehend a world in which media is a trove of infinite niche and hardly anyone knows about the exact same set of 12 things that happened this week

So they see a random meme and wonder why anyone would know it exists without being a thing they missed somehow

Some of the “elders” might have experienced and even went along with bad ideas earlier in their lives despite their best intentions. So instead of saying “no, that is wrong” they’re questioning random shit posts, because sarcasm is just not the best way to communicate between people with different references.

When they ask “who are these people” they really mean “source” to make you question the origin of the idea that you’re presenting - even if it’s sarcasm.

life is a little more strange when you don’t even know who any of the famous people are anymore.
