A stack of crates rises from the floor, holding up one child and exciting another. The boy on the crates stands silently while the other questions aloud “aren’t you going to stop us from doing the milk crate challenge?”

A woman in a towel, holding a cup, passively watches the pair, slowly and deliberately takes a sip, and finally lowers her cup again, before simply replying “nope.”

      Actual answer.

You would set up milk crates getting progressively one crate higher up and then back down in a pyramid and try to get from one side to the other.
The physics of it fucks you, since going up is easy, the crates push against the stack in from of them and their combine resistance makes it easy. When you try to come back down, the crates are super light weight and have nothing to lean or push against so unless you are very careful about stepping down directly in the center with no forward momentum, they fall forward and you fall down onto a bunch of milk crates or floor.

So challenge in that its basically a carnival game that is designed to make you lose and get humiliated but with no stuffed animal for doing it right.

No idea how many were actually done, if I recall it was making large pyramids of milk crates and attempting to climb them. Largely resulting in the structure collapsing and people getting banged up.

Just so you don’t get left hanging. I don’t think it’s a real thing. Just kids doing a dumb, dangerous act, and calling it a challenge. You can see in the comic that the crates are uneven, so this qualifies
