I’m looking for a reasonably priced domain registrar that complies with European regulations such as the GDPR and ePrivacy Directive (e.g. not making redacting personal data in RDAP/WHOIS a paid service) and who lets me pay and manage just a domain without being forced to pay for multiple extra services I don’t want or need; preferably with a free SSL certificate included and DNSSEC. I’m currently at the US provider Porkbun which has a good service, but is sadly USA-based and does not fully comply with the GDPR.

Without whois info them ever going bankrupt risks losing domains as you couldn’t ask the NIC for the TLD to give you back access with a new registrar, sounds sketchy.

They’ve been around for quite a while. I’ve know about their existence for > 10 years.

I use netcup for my .de domain.
Its a German registrar, costs 5€ per year (other TLDs might be more expensive, though) and WHOIS is anonymized. It has an option for DNSSEC, but I don’t know about SSL certificates because I use NPM/acme to automate letsencrypt certificates on my domain.

I wanted to transfer my domain from namecheap to netcup. Netcups domain transfer instructions are about three steps long and very vague. When I asked for help and clarification I was told to follow the instructions and beyond that they dont assist in domain transfers.

So my domain is still at namecheap and once my hosting runs out I’m moving to a different service. Probably ionos.

Being told to go pound sand by the customer service that I’m paying for kinda pisses me off.
