One family member that has not been discussed much is Thing. Many of you may know Thing from the show, or the movies. But in the strip, Thing was quite different, Thing was a person. In fact that is Thing down in the bottom left.
I briefly mentioned Thing near the start of this journey, in week 3.

This image is the cover for Addams and Evil, published in 1947. At this time Fester, Granny Frump, and Grandmama were not yet official members of the Family.
In the TV show Pugsley has a pet octopus, here Wednesday can be seen holding a presumably toy octopus.
There really is not much of a “comic” to this strip, being the book cover. But it is a picture i enjoy a lot, and it fits well with my cozy theme of the last couple weeks.
Previous Strips
I seems like later Uncle Fester took over the design of Thing, who was replaced by a
hairy… uhh… thinghand.Edit: had my characters mixed up
The Thing became a hand. The hairy thing was Cousin Itt
I know you already edited your comment, but you are still going to get the reply I wrote up before you did so.
Thing was in the very first Addams Family strip with Morticia, and Lurch, published 6 August, 1938.

Fester’s first appearance was in January 1941, in a strip I have yet to share. He was not even a member of the Family until 1950 when Fester was pictured on the cover of the book Monster Rally.

There are only two strips that feature It, or Itt in the TV series. However you may notice It or another relative covered in hair is also on the cover of Monster Rally.
Even though I have yet to properly introduce Fester, he was the subject of the very first strip I shared in this project.

I wonder what happened to Thing. Tragic death and all that could be saved was a single reanimated hand?
In the later films, thanks to advances in special effects, Thing (played by Christopher Hart’s hand) is able to emerge and run on his fingertips, much like a spider. In Addams Family Values, Thing is shown driving a car into Debbie to rescue Uncle Fester. After this, Fester gets into the car and Thing drives them off to the Addams Family Mansion, albeit erratically, frightening Fester in the process.
Maybe so!
So the creepy guy hanging out in the background didn’t have a name, but there was a comic where there is a sign on the gate that says “Beware of the Thing”, and a comic where the wife (who would be named later in the show, but the original comics didn’t name the characters) is listening to a record and a hand is coming out to change the music.
Oh also in the TV show, Lurch and The Thing are played by Ted Cassidy. Yep, it’s the same guy!
