ICE official, who was sleeping on man’s lawn and appeared ‘intoxicated’, faces felony charges, California police say

A 72-year-old man shot an off-duty Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) official in California early on Friday morning after the “intoxicated and agitated” official assaulted him and his daughter on their property, local authorities allege.

The Fresno police department said that the ICE official was receiving medical care after being shot in the midsection. The official, identified as David Gonzalez, is facing felony charges for assaulting the father-daughter duo, Fresno police said.

It was not immediately clear for how Gonzalez had been with ICE and what exactly he did for ICE. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS), which oversees ICE, referred all questions about Gonzalez to Fresno police.

Yeah. They’ve been low-key happening on the regular since ICE started going hard on deportations, side items in the media that are reported but without any fanfare, usually involving drinking + bad acts that together result in an arrest.

It’s almost like some of these wannabe sociopaths have just enough of a stub conscience left to fuck them up when they’re away from the team and forced to be alone with themselves, but not enough of one to just walk away.

it’s more because they’re all typically people who couldn’t make it in the police or military, either because of criminal records, addiction, behavior problems, or worse, like all official street thugs of a fascist government, they are the worst people, and when this finally falls apart and people start doing through the details they’ll be identified.

Maybe. All that may be true, but it has nothing to do with how you handle who and what you are after the rest of your team has left for the day and you’re faced with the silent emptiness that contains only you and the knowledge of what you’ve been up to in it.

A distant threat of criminal prosecution, that may or may not ever even happen, has nothing against the recent memory of the woman looking up into your eyes with a mix of horror and revulsion, seeing you as the monster you are as she fights you trying to rip her kid away from her, or the remembered cries of the family members screaming at you as you take their father, or the shouts of “Shame!” from the crowd as they watch you violently subdue some guy whose only crime is being brown.

Some people enjoy it, even feed on that shit. Some people are deeply horrified in some remaining corner of inner sanity and try to drink it away so they can keep doing it. Both are fucked, but deep down where it counts when a human being is alone with himself, they are not the same.

I blame it more on the pressure to deliver unreasonable numbers of arrests/deportations causing a high amount of “work stress” combined with the fact that they’re garbage to begin with.

I seriously doubt any of them have a conscience or feel like they’re doing anything wrong if they willingly took that job.
