I’ve come to realisation that since many Lemmy users are IT workers, they feel resentful in training AI to replace them. Many had been laid off after all since the (irrational exuberant) coming of AI. That’s why I don’t begrudge many Lemmings hating AI as something that could never do anything good. I’m lucky enough that my work isn’t going to be replaced by AI. But for how long?
Because that’s what they want you to do. They gish gallop and you end up having to rebut all the point to tire you out. My experience over the years with extremists on all sides is to call out their bad faith tactics and cut the chase. For example, with the Uyghur issue, tankies always claim that the accusation of genocide only came from one complainant and the West supoosedly chose to blow it out of proportions. But that talking point easily falls apart because it’s not just one, but hundreds and thousands of complaints. Most people would rather get on with their lives than waste time with making false accusations. There are far too many to ignore and where there is smoke there is fire.
It depends on what you’re doing. I deal with lots of data entry and when there are corrections to be made, I had to scour through troves of information which could also cause data entry error when i am going through with it. In other words, it’s “secretary work”. AI had been helpful on that front to minimise the tedious work that does not add value or improve productivity.
AI is only good at secretary work. But for tasks that require critical thinking and analysis and creativity, don’t rely on AI.
I’ve been gotten in more arguments on mainstream social media than I would have liked, so I am genuinely surprised that there are people who do tell you “You’re jealous because you’re not rich.” For a demographic that loves to call others beta, they sure are beta and love to be subservient getting breadcrumbs. It’s always projection.

Different parts of the world have, you know, different perceptions because of different culture and history. For example, Nazi paraphernalia are popular in Thailand because they just aren’t aware of how bad the Nazis are like Imperial Japan is. Speaking of Imperial Japan, try waving the Imperial Japanese flag anywhere in Asia and you’d be slaughtered immediately. The Imperial Japanese flag doesn’t really elicit the same reaction in the West as the swastika.
So, I reckon that in South America, since they never directly fought against the Axis, the names of Hitler and Mussolini are trivial to them.
Not only, that but I always think that the current fascists have learnt from their counterparts: the communists. The latter coordinated internationally while the old school fascists just winged it. Now, the new fascists realised they should coordinate globally like the Communist International have. It’s not a coincidence that there is a surge of the far right across the world.
