So you mean to tell me they had the technology the whole time to make upgraded modular chips and sell them for pre-existing computer architecture but chose not to because they knew people would pay for the shiny new toys.
There’s a chip crisis and SUDDENLY!!! We’re all able to use new technologies on old computer architectures…
Call it supply and demand but I think that’s fucked up nm which way you look at it.
I read that and then immediately thought to myself, so they just chose not to release upgrades for old architectures and speed released a shit load of new hardware they knew people would pay OTA for.
This whole time they could’ve actually been making old computers better than they are and make it so the consumer didn’t have to spend a fuck load on upgrades but waited till a chip shortage to do it…

I heard there’s a new board with new architecture which works with DDR3!
If they make a mobo that’ll take at least 64gb of DDR3, and an architecture that’ll use it, I’m interested.
I did some digging and couldn’t find anything.
If I’m recreating the youtube video in my mind, I think they’d gone shopping on the streets of Singapore… I did find articles saying China was building DDR3 boards, so maybe you could take a flight out there for the difference in RAM prices and come out even.
Found a few on Aliexpress. Four ram slots, but up to 128GB for some. (unless the seller lied)
A 8 slot sodimm ddr4 mobo for me please!
If someone made a board with like 8 slots for ddr3 and a socket for a decent cpu, it would sell like hotcakes. Basically free ram.
They do, they’re called servers. Ddr3 era servers are basically worthless. We have some old ddr3 servers at work that I can’t even give away short of dealing with the “free” section of Marketplace or CL. I ain’t dealing with that again.
I’ll take a few off your hands! The 20 year old HP Z600 I use as a server now could use a break 😭
Gotta come pick em up, because I can’t anymore.
Plenty of old hardware still around for that. Might need to look at server boards if consumer boards didn’t support that much.
