Gee whiz I can’t wait. That probably means only another 5 years before we see a screenshot.

They announced way too early, but the game properly went into production after Starfield, so sometime between 2027 or 2028 is a reasonable release window for their cadence.

Idk if “too early” is the right phrase. Cyberpunk had an initial announcement teaser 7 years before we got anything else about the game, and no one complains about that. In fact, ime, anytime it comes to CDPR they can apparently do no wrong even when they do the same exact shit every other game company does; just look at how people still glaze Witcher 3 even though it’s a very standard open world action RPG.

I’ve seen/heard that the ES announcement was made in order to let people know that it is indeed coming and will be made, rather than letting people think it should’ve been right around the corner.

Cyberpunk was definitely not immune to this, and it got quite the reckoning on release. The big difference in The Witcher 3 for me was how much it copied the parts of the Bethesda formula that were fun for me while also making every side quest interesting and well-presented. Prior to that, I hadn’t seen an RPG keep up that level of quality for so long, as games that big tended to be full of routine fetch quests with no interesting story bit to go along with it, to pad them out, while The Witcher 3 made each of those question the morality of the typical fairy tale as The Witcher (in general) tends to do.

I used to be a shameless BGS fan, I have too much lore in my head, but… I am not hyped?

Even going into them positively, Starfield and F76 were just so… boringly disappointing. I even went into 76 drunk, with friends, a long time after release; how could a coop game possibly be so unfun drunk with friends?

I am just not confident BGS can possibly write interesting environmental stories anymore, or squeeze their archaic engine any harder. Not a single thing they said suggests they learned from their mistakes, rather that everyone responsible failed upward.

TBH I don’t see how other fans are staying positive. Then again, I don’t understand how so many had fun in Starfield…

The second Elder Scrolls game, Daggerfall was also a city, actually pretty near Sentinel, just across the Illiac Bay.

Arena was supposed to be a nickname for the whole continent of Tamriel. Oblivion is a place, but most of that game was set in Cyrodiil.

So only two of the five so far, Morrowind and Skyrim, have been named after whole provinces.

For some reason I recalled that whole starting region in Daggerfall being called Daggerfall. I must be misremembering the map.

It was half in High Rock and half in Hammerfell. There were dozens of little kingdoms and principalities, almost all loyal to the Empire, and Daggerfall city was the capital of Daggerfall kingdom, but that was only a few percent of the total map area.

If that’s it I’ll be annoyed just because sentinel is such corporate word. It feels corporate doesn’t it? Yes it’s a city there, but it’s the “safe” sounding word. I’m just bracing for the next elder scrolls to be like Starfield. Toxic positivity and writing right out of big corporate thinktanks.

That is actually exactly what I was thinking of. A game so bland and corporate that it gave away its soul. The title is proof. The name went from Dragon Age: Dreadwolf (A name all the fans were excited about and a direct successor to the massive cliffhanger) to Veilguard. You could just tell it went through so many committees and had to be approved by 16 layers of middle management.

Elder scrolls will be the same.

The only reason I can think of they’d do sentinel over Hammerfell is if they’re going to try and turn it into a double meaning as both the city/role. Not a great reason, but eh.

Last month former Bethesda veteran Bruce Nesmith – who was lead designer on Skyrim and a quest designer on Fallout 3, 4 and 76 – said he hoped the theories were true, because that would potentially lead to the ability to use boats and explore the water for the first time in the series.

What? You were able to buy boats in Daggerfall. Aside from exploring, yeah I get that. But no, it will not be the first time the series experiences boats. Maybe expanding them yeah but not experiencing.

i think he just meant exploring the water for the first time, as in first time using boats to explore the water vs boats just being a sort of in game fast travel
