Democrats are still a right wing party like the UK Conservatives, or Australian Liberals. They only seem left leaning to GOP because they’re even further right, more like UK Reform or Australian One Nation (basically the party that that all the bigots and racists support - in all those cases).

I’d not say they’ve not gained anything. They’ve gained the reputation of a bad partner, a despotic state, authoritarianism, the failure to abide by their own constitution, and they’ve become a greater negative influence on the world. Oh, and it’s now an open secret that they are actually run by Israel, not the other way around and that US citizens won’t do anything about their government, and that the current administration doesn’t care about the 1st, 4th, 6th, 14th, 15th, (19th probably) and 22nd amendments and will actively breach them with zero repercussions. And that the people/congress won’t use the 2nd and/or 25th when it is actually appropriate to do so.

Like every country where corporations don’t run the government. There are less service industry workers available during the peak summer months as they go on vacation like normal people. The whole country isn’t closed though, you just have to be patient and be pleased they have that right to do so - it’s a sign of a people-focused economy.
The problem is that it didn’t carry on further. The beginnings of most ideologies sound fine but it’s the reality and the shunning of “the other” where you start to see the horrors.
