There’s a local cat rescue that was trying to get rid of surplus black cats this month. Apparently, people don’t often adopt them. Two rescues cats ago, when I adopted a black cat, the human society worker thanked me and said they usually end up destroying black cats because no one wants them.
I always have 1, so I’m not sure what the problem is.

I don’t see how this can be resolved by staff as easily as the Covid problems. The moral injury to staff caring for these children is no doubt profound, especially when it’s something so preventable. And then to be faced with lawsuits from those who more or less killed the child.

A connected coffee pot has a lure to it. You preload it. Sleep. Wake up. As you’re browsing Lemmy in bed, you tap your phone to start the morning coffee. The aroma reaches you in bed, letting you know hot fresh coffee is waiting for you, making it easier to get out of bed.
It’s not enough of a temptation for me to go buy a connected drip coffee pot, but I’m betting that’s why people do it.
