    1. For context, this is a bacteriophage, which is a virus which infects bacteria. It is being used in a compassionate use scenario as a last-ditch effort against an antibiotic resistant bacterial infection.
    2. Bacteriophages tend to be sufficiently specialized to infect viruses that there’s not really a risk of them infecting humans. (There is some possibility of bacteriophages infecting beneficial bacteria such as the human gut biome, but I don’t know how much of a risk that would be in this case)
    3. While I’m not clear on the details of the AI being used here, it is described as a “multimodal genome language model” by the company and appears to be trained very specifically on the genetic data of bacteriophages which infect the target bacteria.

When it comes to medicine, it’s best to move slowly and keep things intact, and while AI trained like this does have promise for exactly these sorts of medical purposes, it’s still algorithms outputting stuff which cannot be blindly trusted. But this also isn’t ChatGPT spitting out some idea of bacterial genetic code it generated from predictive text based on the collected works of Michael Crichton. Let’s not spread misinformed panic.

  • Emergencies are always best prevented, but it’s still best to have a plan in place for them. This is the emergency plan.

Now, if the kid is routinely invoking it then it’s probably time to have a talk about what setting boundaries with friends looks like and offering support if toxic friendships need be ended, but having a code like this figured out in advance is always going to be advisable IMO.

  • In looking into this, what I am able to find indicates that this is a lawmaker (Rep Justin Pearson) and his brother (KeShaun Pearson) who is not a lawmaker and was there protesting GOP lawmakers splitting the city of Memphis where they both live into three districts, diluting the Black vote after a Supreme Court ruling badly gutting what was left of the Voting Rights Act. It appears that KeShaun was detained. Rep Pearson was not, and I am unclear from the video and article whether state troopers forcibly removed Rep Pearson or if he chose (understandably) to leave in order to watch out for his brother who was being detained.

This is the article on it i was able to find. https://www.actionnews5.com/2026/05/08/video-shows-tense-moment-between-rep-pearson-state-troopers-brother-detained-tenn-capitol/

Just so we’re clear, this is still a bad thing that happened and is happening. Jim Crow is returning before our eyes. I just believe, based on what I’ve been able to find, that this screenshot contains inaccurate specifics of the details.
