In a world where there is no accountability for the powerful, and in a country where this fact is blatantly advertised and bragged about by the powerful, there is no reason to trust.

This is my biggest concern about the way things have been going. Without reasonable laws and consequences for breaking them, society will basically just collapse into “might makes right.” The rich and powerful have that might and use it openly to take more wealth and power for themselves leaving everyone else with less and less. Without a base level of financial stability for the average person, more and more people will grift and cheat and lie, trying to survive and support their loved ones.

We really need to come together and fight back but those in power know just the right things to say to keep us divided.

I don’t even trust my webcam when I’m not using it, I unplug it immediately after every use. Any opportunity these fuckers have to steal info for the datasets they have on you, they will.

“Can’t trust anyone these days” makes it sound like Meta isn’t the absolute first entity you shouldn’t trust under any circumstances.

Perverts bought pervert glasses from pervert corp to perv on women without their knowledge or consent. Then they found out that pervert corp, which is famous for perving on its customers without their knowledge or consent, has been perving on the pervert glasses perverts, without their knowledge or consent. The perverts are both surprised and upset that they have become victims of perving while trying to perv.

This. It’s a rare moment of corporate justice when the surveillance customers discover they’re also the inventory. Unfortunately, the women being filmed never got a ticket to this comedy.

20 years ago I started complaining when I couldn’t find ANY electronic devices anymore with physical power switches.

    People laughed at me.

Meta spent two decades vacuuming up everything people willingly posted. Now Zuckerberg wants the stuff they never agreed to share, too. Those glasses aren’t a breakthrough in wearable tech: they’re a business model that turns strangers into unpaid data suppliers. The little recording light isn’t consent. It’s a corporate middle finger with a battery. Calling users »glassholes« is still far too kind.

Mic sensing for specific patterns can be super low power. You could set it to speech-like patterns (audio in specific frequency ranges, above a volume limit that makes it audible, with peaks at known frequencies for speech), and turn it on only to record when such patterns are detected.

And since Meta advertises ~9 hours of moderate use (meaning voice assistants, constant phone connectivity, video recording) with gen3, plus 50 extra hours in the charging case… That’s easily extrapolated to ~36 hours stand-by audio pattern watching and occasional recording.

They have algorithms that monitor usage. From there it would be easy to set up an interval recording spy capture profile. You might even set triggers on the microphone to initialze the camera if the right conditions are met. In short. Its probably on standby/hybrid-sleep and it records in short intervals.

      Let’s reframe the question:

How long could our devices last on a single charge if that didn’t do stuff like this?

Recording audio needs minimal battery and storage - if you configure it to transcribe into text and transfer the payload every time these things are at the charger, you will never notice any battery drain, only a minimally increased charge time (which you won’t notice since they did this from the beginning i assume)
