At a funeral
‘Can I say a word?’
‘Go ahead’
‘Plethora’
‘Thanks, that means a lot.’
Bruh, too soon…
Wuster-shurr
wustashuh
Isn’t that a city in Massachusetts?
Nah that’s just wustuh
close you got the Wusta. more like Wustahear.
That just depends on where in the uk the accent is from
perhapss, but this is my pronunciation and lets agree that accents in the uk are really only 50 miles away or less from eachother. Embrace our culture and my special sauce.
tamarind, is the thing that makes it.
forgot the s
wustashear
Just stop adding extra sylables
wuss tear shear
Stick it on cheese toastie right off to stab sum manz innit
Fuckin English words and just rejecting half the god damn letters in it. You complain about French, but look at you! You’ve done the same thing!
Believe it or not the French are also to blame for this
We already dropped plenty of letters from it; it used to be Weogorancaesterscir (probably “the country of the stronghold of the people of the bending river”).
What the heck accent is that meant to be when it’s at home?
Wuss that over tear?
If you didn’t want the syllables, why have the letters for them?
It’s not our fault we had to mash Franco Germanic Latin and Nordic words together
Kinda is

Werst-eh-sher
Zat’nik’tel
Bless you, very impressive sneeze
gerwundersniffel (that’s gesundheit in german)
Genau… hoffe es geht dir bald besser
gvd ik ken al geen Duits en dat was de meest verwarrende zin ooit om te lezen.
Graag gedaan!
Zat gun for short.
Apparently both actors and effects and CGI crews hated it and its inconsistency.
Directors probably loved its ability to disintegrate plot holes, though.
It’s pronounced “wash your sister”
is that wash with or without “r”?
War-Chester-shire
This is how I would pronounce it so it’s definitely wrong.
If the Brits wanted it pronounced their way then they should’ve stopped adding so many fucking letters
Nope… Woostershu sauce.
“Wooster sauce” - it rhymes with “Rooster sauce”
No it doesn’t.
I thought it rhymed with “wusta”. (But keep in mind I’m originally from Massachusetts.)
and busta, cause he rhymes
That’s the one. Everyone knows what you mean when you say it, so why make it longer.
But rooster sauce is the fake-not-Asian-at-all-no-matter-how-hard-it-tries-to-pretend chili garlic sauce from Southern California.
War Chest Sir
or Wash Your Sister
One of my favourites names like this is Bicester.
Or Towcester
Bideford is another I like.
It’s were-stir-sure where I’m from. English language is nonsense. Which is why so many English speakers are absolute bonkers. How can anyone be sane when the language they think in is insane?
ˈwʊstəʃɪə
Just stop doing rhotic accents yer bloody yanks
If you’re going to complain that not all the spelled letters are pronounced, you have absolutely no platform to stand on here.
I say it the way it’s spelled. Other, perhaps more common pronunciations came about out of laziness. People just slurring the syllables together and now they’ve all agreed that’s how it’s pronounced because that’s how “everyone pronounces it”.
If that’s true for this and so many other words, then why don’t we just change the spelling to match the pronunciation we’ve “all agreed on?”
Right now, a problem schools are having is they’re trying to teach kids how to read without teaching letter sounds. Why? I have no fucking idea, it’s stupid.
My kid read above his grade level throughout school and at a college level in high school, because WE taught him. If we had relied on the schools alone, he would have floundered.
A critical look at “SoR”, or the Science of Reading movement that has left so many kids unable to read at grade level, sometimes falling four or five grades behind:
