Lies. I get an itchy brain all the time.
What does it even mean for something to be painful if you can’t feel it? “We could see in the dark if it wasn’t for the fact we need light to see”
I think it’s that our digestive tract shows symptoms of pain but that doesn’t translate to us feeling it. I know your organs get inflamed in a similar way that other parts of you would when you’re injured. Maybe it’s a bit of a misnomer from this guy as in our bodies evolved long ago to not feel the pain instead of “ignoring” it like op said.
Literally none of this is true.
…do your internal organs get itchy?
It’s like trying to scratch an itch on your foot through your shoe, but worse.
Bout to say… there are nerves in the digestive tract? I know there are nervs around it but…
There are nerves that can sense pressure, that’s why gas pain is a very real and very painful experience
Those are outside the actual digestive tract i believe
This is one of the dumbest things I’ve seen
Your digestive tract does have pain receptors and you do feel them. You’ve had a stomach ache or felt bloated, right? And you will definitely feel a hernia if your intestine goes where it shouldn’t. The GI pain receptors just work a little differently. They don’t get triggered by burns or cuts. They react to stretching, pulling, twisting, pressure, and some chemical triggers.
As someone who has had gastric ulcers, my GI tract strongly disagrees and asserts its ability to feel burns and cuts.
Our bodies are like Iphones. Dumbproof. You don’t have admin access and can only see and access the pretty part
I can access parts of mine that are far from being pretty.
Anything’s a Chinese finger trap if you’re brave enough.
I think you mean a fingure trap
Wanna know what hurts more? The constant realisation that people can’t write basic text correctly.

You put your fingure on that one
Fingure
I also don’t know that it’s even trying to say… How is not feeling your stomach acid comparable to the dark urge to bite your finger?
looks down at their finger you know you’re all pondering that now.
That one’s on you. They’re saying that your brain can basically override you and, to some degree, reality. It’s the reason you don’t see your nose, or clocks take a lot longer to run down a second the first time you glance over. Pain isn’t actually related to damage, and you can change your whole mood by shooting some straight lemon juice. Our bodies, behind the scenes, are doing crazy shit that our conscious mind has no business knowing about.
I think you’re giving that poorly-worded tumblr post too much credit. I really don’t think they’re comparable “oversights” for our own sanity. The knowledge that we shouldn’t bite our finger or the muscle memory/reflexes not to do it is not the same as “noise cancelling” stomach acid/ignoring your nose, and that’s not the same as time moving slower if we’re waiting on something we’re focusing on. Those are certainly 4 distinct mental phenomena. I guess the point of “our perceptions shape the life we experience” is a thought, but they express that very poorly.
People believe this shit? Is that all it takes? For it to be on the internet and it’s true?
If they don’t have the education to make them think otherwise, yes.
fun fact: People love making shit up. Digestion obviously isn’t painful
Tell that to my acid reflux…that’s definitely my stomach being a dick and hurting me
You just need strengthen your lower esohageal sphincter… it’s the forgotten butthole.
I literally asked a doctor about this earlier today and they said there was no pt possible to help with this.
Sorry, it sounded funnier in my head. I didn’t mean to fault you in any way. I know it can be frustrating when your body seems to work against you.
No worries friend :) i wish it were possible
hey maybe it’s your diet, RFKJrsBrainworm
Bro is starving to death
The
brainworkbrainworm? Yes. RFJjr? Swerves for more roadkill.Edit: interesting autocorrect but not what I was going for.
The brainwork
I don’t think his brain work
that’s definitely my stomach being a dick and hurting me
Meanwhile, your dick: “Hey, why am I catching strays? I would never hurt you!”
It’s super painful other than the absence of pain
Or some people just like making shit in general. 😄
Not if it’s going as planned
So how does it work? If it’s painful but it doesn’t hurt, then it’s, by definition, not painful. “It’s excruciating but you can’t actually even feel it” doesn’t really make sense to me. My bullshit-o-meter is not happy with that.
It doesn’t work like this. It’s bullshit.
Pain is a warning system that something is wrong and you need to know it’s wrong for your survival. Digestion is obviously not that.
Ok so there are drugs called “analgesics” that make pain go away, and there are other drugs called “anaesthetics” that turn off your perception of pain, and there other drugs called “dissociatives” that straight up disconnect your perceptions from your body.
I had major surgery and was in the hospital, for rapid pain relief they gave me something called “Dilaudid”. I said I had pain level 6 or 7, they gave me some D, came back after a bit and said “what’s the pain at?” I said “6 or 7”, they got concerned and I said “oh don’t worry I don’t care any more”.
When they gave me oxy, the pain level actually went down.
I don’t encourage spending a week in the hospital purely for research purposes, but it was very educational to have had that experience.
It’s not even remotely true and easily disproven.
Easily disprove my lived experience then.
So, there’s this thing called science. And it pretty much dictates all of what we know about everything.
And this thing called science states that there is zero evidence (outside of Facebook memes) that in a NORMAL functioning human body, is digestion a painful experience. Now if you have a CONDITION- that causes digestion issues such as IBS, or GASTROENTERITIS, you may have trouble digesting food and pain can result.
But in a NORMAL FUNCTIONING HUMAN BEING-
This won’t be the case.
Did you answer the wrong post?
No they just didn’t actually read the comment and decided it said something it didn’t, but tbf to them the comment wasn’t actually relevant even if it does explain a related concept.
I’ve heard that orgasms are painful, but the endorphins and oxytocin fix that.
I’ve never actually looked into the validity of it, but it sounds like BS.
I actually think this might be true. I’m dealing with treatment resistant depression and am on fairly heavy antidepressants. These stop me from feeling much of anything, good or bad. Even orgasms don’t really give me any pleasure at all.
When I orgasm, it is actually very painful. I’ve gone to a urologist and have had scans, etc done, and there’s nothing wrong physically with anything down there. Until I saw your post I never really thought about it in this way, but I can definitely see how a lack of endorphins and oxytocin - or really, any feel good chemicals - floating around, how an intense muscle contraction could be quite painful. It’s like a sharp pain, probably similar to a quick, extreme flex of muscles that at the same time need to relax to pass things through.
Hang in there 💕
Thank you, I really appreciate the kind words! I’m trying my best!
I’m not really sure that’s a great choice of words for someone with depression 🤔
I also had that issue on SSRIs. More frequent orgasms helped me. Just make sure you’re achieving them in gentle and sustainable ways with vibration/suction/lubrication instead of vigorous rubbing.
Also don’t take medical advice from strangers on the internet or something lol.
Wait this could make sense, maybe it’s like when you get a cramp?
I now fear i am gonna spend hours to days in a new rabbit hole…
This one makes more sense cause your genitals are by default very sensitive to pain. So your body pumps out a bunch of hormones during arousal so sex doesn’t feel like beating up your bits.
Feels like this one is for philosophy. If your body is in pain and you take anesthesia, is it no longer in pain, or simply your brain doesn’t get the signals, but technically still in pain? Feels like there was something interesting about coma patients and pain. You can see the pain using some scanner (MRI?), but not feel it. How would you define that?
Im guessing it just lacks or surpresses nociceptors
On a side note, menstrual cramps are supposed to feel, at most, like sore muscles after a workout (probably since they’re essentially getting a non-stop workout for a week). Sharp, especially debilitating, pain is a cause for concern and should be addressed, however doctors usually don’t care (plenty still think the cervix doesn’t feel pain), and medical research is notoriously behind, case in point the relatively recent study that looked into how endometriosis affects the male partners of the person having periods.
Can you explain the last thing you said?
Can do. I’m not sure what’s unclear, so I’ll cover my bases.
Endometriosis - as part of the period cycle, the layer of the womb’s walls that’s inside (endometrium) thickens, ready to take a fertilised egg, but if there’s no egg (or none in time) make itself a cozy home among that lining, then it sheds, and is ejected from the body along with blood during periods. Endometriosis is a disease where that lining starts to grow elsewhere outside the uterus, most commonly around it, but can end up all over the body, even inside lungs or growing on skin. And, of course, it makes periods quite a bit more painful. Current estimate is that it affects 10 percent of menstruating people, yet it’s regularly misdiagnosed or the diagnosis is delayed, leading to years (if not a lifetime) of pain. This article is a good read on the troubles with endometriosis.
The research about its effect on men or another one about how endometriosis affects the sexual wellbeing of men - even though over the recent couple of years there’s been an increase in the number of studies on endometriosis, it’s upsetting to people that instead of focusing on better diagnosis, care, alleviation, etc, people are still looking into “but what about the men 🥺”. Not to mention the biased / lacking variety selection of participants for existing research. This all ties into medical misogyny and women’s concerns being consistently dismissed (see more below).
On period pain - this article is a good read (anti-paywall proxy), but in a nutshell, it is so “normal” that people have pain during periods that people just suffer in silence, or are dismissed when they do try to seek help. There are some materials (example, example) online, though even official materials can downplay period pain, which is just an example how normal and systemic it is, though one should not be surprised as half report their symptoms/concerns being dismissed. Which also ties into endometriosis, since it can increase the painfulness of periods, to the point of being debilitating. Not to mention the general dismissal of people’s pain in gynecology, what with for example medical professionals underestimating pain and just not offering pain medication.
On the cervix - things have gotten better in gynecological care in more recent years, though there’s still a lot of room to grow. In Sexual Behavior in the Human Female (1953), Kinsey’s group wrote that the surface of the cervix is “the most completely insensitive part of the female genital anatomy.” based on a reaction to a gentle stroking by a probe. And then, it was taught to doctors for years, decades, and some healthcare providers still keeping to the old beliefs. It’s obviously wrong (ex. a neat read on cervix and pleasure), but what do you expect, the doctors no longer use the word “hysteria”, but medical misogyny is sufficiently embedded that just slapping on a generic diagnosis is a thing.
Did that clarify things for you or is there something more you’d like to know?
Thanks for going into more detail. My cousin had endometriosis and had surgery for it. She’s better now.
I think my favorite part of endometriosis is the catch-22: surgery is needed to fix it, but to get that surgery covered under medical plans it needs to be proven medically necessary. Endo doesn’t show up on scans well, so generally surgery is the only way to confirm the diagnosis.
It took my cousin years to get her surgery approved because of that.
I’m glad to hear that, hopefully she’ll recover well and be happy and healthy
Ow my fingure
One time, 20 years ago. I read that taking a shit ton of niacin would clear up acne by creating a “niacin flush” that would like, super circulate your skin and make it nice.
It turned me beet red and made me feel like my lungs were sunburned and itchy as fuck. I called the advice nurse and she was like, yeah… that’s what you signed up for. It will pass in a few hours. Drink lots of water 🤷♀️
But lung insides are nearly an external organ, so that probably doesn’t count.
Ha, niacin was our go-to for passing drug tests as a kid. That full body sunburn was something else. Not even sure it actually helped, but hey, never failed one!
Ohh yeah, that niacin flush… I was on a niacin prescription once and was warned about the flush. I was not prepared for what that actually felt like. They said it would be tingly, like pins and needles. It actually felt like I rolled around in hot sauce after exfoliating with sandpaper. I thought was having an allergic reaction to my bed sheets for a few minutes before it finally clicked. I was almost ready to head to the ER.
did it work?
Plus, coughing is basically reacting to a lung itch.
Sometimes, when I’m sick and have a bad cough, my lungs get itchy on the inside. It’s very frustrating.
it’s the microplastics that make brain go itch
Yeah Brain, what if I WANT to bite off my finger?
