Ah, they never said whether we can cook them or not. So I’m taking some sautéed onions on a bbq
Combine all 4 and you have a nice spicy dish.
I was going to ask "if we eat all 4 can we get $4 million?
Same. Hell, I wouldn’t mind eating it raw; I like onion, but a whole one at once might be a bit much, so if I can spread it over a couple of hours then it’s easy enough. Although, for 1mill USD I can manage in about 5 minutes, but I could do it for A LOT less. 100$, maybe?
If I get to roast it, I don’t need to be paid. It’s free food.
i can do the entire onion pretty easy if i mix it with a bunch of tomato, cilantro, tomatillo, assorted peppers, lime, salt, and some tortilla chips
Even raw, anyone should be able to choke down one onion
We already cook tomato hornworms here in the South. 🤷🏼♂️ (That dude probably doesn’t taste like a fried tomato though.)
Thanks for the cool $4 milion. Easiest money ever made.
Four onions and I’m full.
I hope you don’t share a bed with anyone that night.
Do people really dislike onions that much? Like, I throw diced onions on a ton of different things and usually have to pay for it. I feel like eating a whole onion would just be something I’d do if I was drunk enough and didn’t have anything else in the house.
Protein tip, diced/sliced onion with a little sugar diluted in vinegar is a great refreshing side dish.
Red or white, I love raw onion. The looks of revulsion I get make it that much better, but I do really enjoy them. They were my #1 grazing food, next to cheese when I worked at a pizza shop long long ago.
I hope no prejudice, I haven’t eaten an onion that I didn’t like.
Onion and cheese together though? Brother.
There was a kid that used to show up at our bus stop every morning eating a massive onion like an apple.
As an adult, he drove his car off a cliff and killed himself, on purpose.
Coincidence? I think not.
Also … it doesn’t say anything about how you eat those. No prohibition against cooking it or adding additional ingredients. No time limit.
Chop that onion up, cook it, and use it in a meal or two, and it’ll be totally fine – delicious even. And I don’t even really like onions.
Shockingly just putting a whole onion in the oven and baking it with no prep, spices or anything is delicious too. It starts to caramelize and it becomes a sweet treat.
If we’re going on technicalities then you might need to eat the skin too
Eh, not that bad if I grind it up into a powder first.
Just don’t chew, nibble on it and it’s no issue. Don’t ask me how I know
They make my tummy hurt :(
That sucks… COVID made onions and garlic taste funny for like 3 weeks and that almost ended me.
i’ve managed to avoid that symptom. it legitimately terrifies me. when i was at my lowest, flavor (not food. sometimes just aroma) was all i had left to enjoy.
I think onions are disgusting, but I’m a Supertaster (it sounds better than it is) so my taste buds are weird. But yes, to me they’re enormously disgusting.
Thankfully leeks and shallots are both delicious, so when I cook I just replace any onion in a recipe with either leek or shallot.
i start almost every meal sauteeing a couple onions and a garlic
I’m not an onion lover, but I’ve somehow recently realized that maybe its because yellow onion sucks? White onion (in chili, salsa, etc) I don’t mind, and might even miss if it were left out. Red onion, it kinda depends, I often don’t want as much as they put on a burger, but I’ll leave some small amount on.
But, all the recipes that call for yellow onion seem to be things I don’t like. I haven’t just tried one alone, to test, but can onion lovers chime in on whether yellow onion is distinctly different enough to be the kind I’ve hated much of my life?
I eat the kind pictured in the OP image almost exclusively, because they’re the cheapest where I live. They aren’t that different from red onions to warrant the hate. Idk about white ones, they aren’t popular here at all.
Put yellow onions on sandwiches, it’ll be fine. Great for frying too. I personally don’t like boiled onions, but it’s used in soups around here quite a bit.
Yellow onions are great though.
The three main onion colors have different strengths.
Red - best raw. Great diced or sliced as a topping for salad for example, pizza, or maybe chili.
White - holds texture very well. “Clean” taste, not overpowering. Great mixed into pico, salsa, etc. Can also be a good topping for chili.
Yellow - best cooked into food. Has highest sugar content, so amazing for low and slow cooking when you want a sweet (carmelized) taste, or just a nice mellow taste in a stew. Not great to eat raw compared to the others.
You say you don’t like recipes that call for yellow onions… What do you mean?? You don’t like cooked food? Almost every recipe that calls for cooking an onion will call out yellow onions.
Please give examples of recipes that you don’t like that call for yellow onions, I will try to work with you. You seem like you are open to new things.
At the end of the day you might just not like yellow onions. But it might be a texture thing (they can get mushy) or you’re accidentally putting them on stuff raw when a red/white is more appropriate.
I hated onions as a kid but enjoy them as an adult.
Yellow onions are kind of the “default” onion in my mind. Basically anything cooked in a skillet can start with some onions in butter or oil. Or as part of the base to start a soup. Most of the time, the onion itself kind of fades into the background, adding some sweet notes to a dish.
Red and white onions are more likely to be used raw (chili topping, pico, added to some salads…). But if I’m cooking, it’s usually a yellow onion.
Yellow onions aren’t usually better for cooking, especially for caramelizing. White and red tend to be better used fresh or pickled.
The egg is better than it looks
I was trying to figure out why an avocado would look like that so thanks for clearing it up.
Aren’t we all
I’d eat it for free with soy sauce lol
For those curious, they’re preserved eggs, often sold at Asian groceries. You might also find them in the form of an appetizer at an authentic Chinese restaurant
From the wiki description it has ammonia in it though??
So do you.
Are you delicious, Meatwagon?
Depends on how you cook…
I love ammonia, so maybe it wasn’t an impartial opinion
I couldn’t stomach a few bites of it. I don’t even consider myself particularly picky
Can I eat all 4 for $4 million?
Asking the right questions.
I would eat a century egg over a whole raw onion any day.
Oh is that what it was? Yeah a century egg for sure
You’re out of your fucking mind.
Are you saying that because you don’t like century eggs or are you just judging by looking?
I know Iike onions. Reapers would hurt. Century eggs might taste great, but even I ain’t trying that and I’ll try damned near anything. I’d try the caterpillar before one of those.
How white are you?
Justplaindave:
Incredibly. I’m made up of pretty much all of Western Europe.
Century egg is just egg that’s a different colour. It reaches that colour because it’s been simmered in some tea/soup for a long time (hours to a few days) at low heat.
That sounds like a tea egg. Century eggs are cured in an alkaline solution for weeks to months. Both taste fine.
I’ll try damned near anything
Doubt.
I guarantee I eat things you’d never touch. I just ain’t eating any eggs that spoiled during the Harding administration.
It’s not spoiled, it’s preserved
Sure.
But an onion is fresh and just an onion.
they’re only preserved for a few weeks
Then they should change the name to month egg.
And those things are nearly black. That’s not preserved. That’s rotten.
I love onions.
That’s a century egg? I thought it was an eyeball from a cow or a squid or something.
But how will you learn his cool fucking backstory?
What is that 4th option?
the yolk becomes dark greenish-grey in color, with a smooth consistency and strong flavor due to the hydrogen sulfide and ammonia present
Ah yes, the delicious smell of rotten eggs. One of those smells that a person wishes to never encounter again in their life after a single run-in with it.
i hate the smell of taleggio (it smells like stinky feet that then rotted) but damn i love its taste
This thread is making me think of durians.
This post was made by an extra terrestrial species to gather info how many humans would eat its offspring.
The question is at which % they deem humanity hostile and will destroy earth star destroyer fashion.
Im doing my part and would eat the alien egg 🫡
Piss egg
For anyone wondering if real piss is involved, this is from the Wiki:
There is a misconception that century eggs are prepared by soaking eggs in horse urine, but this is not true. In Thai and Lao, the common word for century egg translates to “horse urine egg”, due to this misconception or due to the eggs’ ammonia odor:
Thai: ไข่เยี่ยวม้า [kʰàj jîaw máː] (RTGS: khai yiao ma)
Lao: ໄຂ່ຍ່ຽວມ້າ [kʰāj ɲīaw mâː]
Century egg. A type of Chinese preserved egg
The onion, obviously. I eat raw onion sometimes just because I want to. Eating a whole one wouln’t be awful.
I mean, it’d be pretty bad but not
-
bug guts
-
violence in, violence out
-
abomination
inre 2, they make this ointment you can lube up your bootyhole with so you don’t get taco butt. you gotta be fairly comfortable fingering your own bootyhole tho
Lol did I just learn about mushers wax for your asshole?
-
You need to eat it as pictured, skin included
Century egg, hands down. Onion’s a good second though.
$1 Million dollars is a lot of money and with these options you’re risks are: overdoing a pleasant snack (onion), discovering a new delicacy (century egg), an unpleasant flavor and texture (grub), or like twenty cumulative minutes of fiery pain (carolina reaper).
For $100, none of these are worth it unless we’re allowed to prepare them in some sort of dish. For $1000, I’ll eat a raw onion. For $10,000, anything but the grub, even all three.
For $1 Million? I’ll eat all four of these, raw (possibly wriggling), and ask for seconds, if required. I’d be a fool to do otherwise.
Would eat the onion for a 100, rest for 1000
False. Any dollar amount over like $20 and the onion is a good choice unless you must eat the skin. In which case IDK a hundo is probably sufficient.
When it comes to really hot peppers, its more than the pain going in. They strike again on the other end. I didn’t think about that the first time I ate a ghost pepper and then spent the next day roaming around Washington DC.
For me it’s the heartburn and the hiccups. My mouth and anus can take the hottest peppers in the world, the rest of me really can’t.
Oof. I can’t imagine that kind of heartburn. I’ve only had normal hb once from too many chicken wings but I do remember feeling like my stomach was empty all day even after eating food. It made me feel a bit weak for several hours.
or like twenty cumulative minutes of fiery pain (carolina reaper).
For a single reaper, sure. For the entire container of them that’s probably at least the rest of your day ruined.
I paid to eat bugs from a food cart in Thailand, though they were cooked and seasoned.

Onion isn’t even a challenge
A yellow onion no less… the easiest onion to eat
My personal prices for each:
Live grub: $50
Large raw onion: $25
Carolina Reaper: $100
Century egg: $10
None of these are even $1000 foods, much less $1,000,000 foods.
If you offered me $1 million to eat all four, I’d do it without thinking twice about it.
Son of a bitch has a dedicated menu for eating crap!
Though I’d pay 50 bucks to watch you eat a grub.
I’d eat a 10lb sack of onions for a million bucks. Shit, I’d eat a pickup bed full of onions for that.
I don’t think you understand how much a million dollars is. I’d eat any of those for much less.
yeah, properly invested i could live off the interest on a million for the rest of my life. two million if i wanted to be really comfy.
